Russelia equisetiformis 'Firecracker Plant'

In Florida this is used as a groundcover, here in the Midwest we have to settle for container plant use, but what a plant it is! Basically leafless, giving it a grass-like spiky appearance, this plant's minimalistic elegance cascades over the edge of containers like a horsetail and flowers with little red tubular blooms that seem to float out beyond the end of the plant. Piques hummingbird interest. This most certainly makes for a wonderful small specimen plant or great added into the edge of a mixed container. Has to be seen to be believed. It likes water.
