Basil 'African Blue'

<< PREV Image 1 of 2 NEXT >>

Ornamental herb, a large bushy plant that has purple-veined green leaves and lavender flowers. Will often reach 3 feet in the garden. Flowers are sterile, so it puts more energy into bushy growth. Somewhat more cold tolerant than other basils. Flavor is milder and less spicy than Italian basils. Thought to be an accidental cross between a camphor-scented, 6 ft tall East African type and purple-foliaged Dark Opal, with its classic Italian flavor.
