Ratibida columnifera
Long Headed Coneflower
Here's another case of the handy compact version of a prairie favorite already on our list. Flower has the same tall cylindrical cone with droopy yellow rays as R. pinnata, but the whole package is only 2-3 feet tall. This showcases the pinnate foliage and makes summer storm damage less likely. Long blooming in mid summer, sturdy taproot stays put, and it will seed around a bit. Good thing because the bunnies might come looking for a snack with this one.
