Calendula 'Radio'
Pot Marigold
- Category: Border Gems
- Height: 18-24 in
We can call the look of these quill petalled double flowered calendula "vintage"; the spiky vibe is more mid-century modern although they were introduced in the 1930s. Although they look a bit like a bright orange sea urchin, or perhaps a 1970's communication satellite until the petals open and and the paler orange pollen disc is revealed. Solitary bees and other beneficial insects will be cruising around them looking for pollen. Edible petals plus all the classic medicinal uses of the calendula gang. You won't mind if it self seeds a bit, will you?
