Matteuccia struthiopteris
True Ostrich Fern
A vigorous tall vase-shaped fern from grandmother's garden. A native of northern North America. It appreciates constant moisture on the North side of the house but will grow easily in the woodland garden. The fiddle heads can be cut in the spring and eaten like asparagus when they are 2"-3" tall.
